A release built to dominate medium-dry lanes with sharper backend motion and improved carry. The success of the Typhoon reignited the iconic Hot line, but it also revealed the need for a stronger companion to handle more oil.
Description
Storm Rocket A.I. — Sharp Backend Pearl for the Thunder Line
The Thunder Line Gets a Pearl With Teeth
The Storm Thunder line has been expanding steadily. The Rocket A.I. continues that expansion with a pearl coverstock option. It shares the same mid-performance tier as the Monsoon and Typhoon. But it fills a different role. The A1S Pearl Reactive coverstock creates sharp backend motion on medium oil. Where the Monsoon reads the midlane with its solid cover, the Rocket A.I. pushes longer and snaps harder at the breakpoint.
Inside is the Booster Core, a symmetric design enhanced with Storm’s A.I. outer core technology. That technology lowers the RG and raises the differential compared to previous Rocket models. The result is a ball that better matches today’s lane conditions. The factory finish is Storm’s Power Edge polish for clean length. At 2.53 RG and 0.048 differential, this is the strongest mid-performance pearl in Storm’s current Hot and Thunder lines.

🎓 Understanding the Booster Core and A1S Pearl
2.53 RG — Medium-High for Clean Length
The Booster Core’s 2.53 RG at 15 lb is in the medium-high range. The ball delays its roll through the front of the lane. It doesn’t grab early. Paired with the Power Edge polish, this RG creates significant length. The ball clears the heads and enters the midlane before starting its transition. That length gives you room to swing the ball and create angles. For bowlers on medium oil, this means you can play further outside without the ball hooking too soon.
0.048 Differential — More Flare Than the Typhoon or Monsoon
At 0.048, the Rocket A.I. has a higher differential than both the Typhoon (0.042) and Monsoon (0.042). That extra differential produces 4 to 5 inches of track flare. More flare means more total hook potential at the breakpoint. The ball creates a stronger change of direction when it hits friction. That’s what gives the Rocket A.I. its sharper backend shape. Compared to its Hot line siblings, this ball moves more boards at the breakpoint. It’s the strongest mid-performance option in the Thunder and Hot families.
A.I. Outer Core Technology — What Changed
The Booster Core retains the same inner weight block shape from previous Rocket models. The change is in the outer core. Storm’s A.I. technology modifies the outer core to lower the RG and raise the differential. That means the Rocket A.I. revs up slightly sooner and flares more than older Rockets. Storm also reports improved carry percentage on off-pocket hits. The A.I. enhancement makes the core better suited to modern lane conditions.
How A1S Pearl Creates the Backend Shape
The A1S Pearl Reactive coverstock is engineered for high tackiness. In practical terms, it grips the lane surface more aggressively than standard pearls. The Power Edge polish keeps the ball clean through the front of the lane. When the ball reaches the breakpoint and hits friction, the A1S Pearl responds quickly. The response is sharp, not gradual. That sharp response combined with the higher differential creates the angular backend. The ball doesn’t just hook. It snaps off the spot with continuation through the pins.

💡 BowlersMart Tips: Getting the Most From the Storm Rocket A.I.
Where the Rocket A.I. Fits With the Typhoon and Monsoon
Think of three tiers within Storm’s mid-performance range. The Monsoon (Reactor Solid) handles the most oil. It reads the midlane earliest. The Rocket A.I. (A1S Pearl) creates the sharpest backend move. It has the highest differential of the three. The Typhoon (Reactor Pearl) is the lightest option for dry-to-light conditions. The Rocket A.I. sits between the Monsoon and Typhoon in oil handling. But it creates more angle than either of them at the breakpoint.
Creating Angles Without Losing Carry
The Rocket A.I. is built to create angle and continue through the pins. That’s a combination many pearls struggle with. Most pearls either snap off the spot and deflect, or arc smoothly but lack angle. The A1S Pearl’s high tackiness gives the ball grip at the breakpoint. The 0.048 differential gives it the flare to change direction. The result is angle with continuation. Swing the ball. Open up the lane. Trust that it’ll carry.
Surface Adjustments
The factory Power Edge polish creates maximum length and sharp backend. Keep the polish for the most angular reaction. If the backend is too sharp for your conditions, take it to 2000 or 3000 grit. That smooths out the backend without killing the ball’s personality. If you need even more length, maintain the Power Edge and keep the coverstock clean. Going below 2000 grit changes the A1S Pearl’s character significantly.
Coverstock Care
The A1S Pearl’s high tackiness means it picks up oil faster than standard pearls. Clean the ball with an approved cleaner after every session. Don’t skip this step. A dirty A1S Pearl loses its sharp backend response quickly. If the ball starts reading earlier or feels less angular, resurface it. A fresh Power Edge finish restores the factory reaction.
