How It Works
Meet the TWIST
The TWIST is one simple idea executed brilliantly: a thumb insert you can swap in seconds. Watch the official explainer, then here is the system in three parts.
The Outer
The threaded outer installs into your ball’s thumb hole and stays put. It is the foundation the whole system locks into, set once by your pro shop.
The Inner
Your thumb goes in the inner sleeve. Line up the groove, drop it in between 6 and 7 o’clock: this is the piece you swap, so one ball can hold a different fit in seconds.
Just Twist It
Turn clockwise until the inner locks into place. Patented threads hold it secure through every shot, then twist it back out whenever you want to change.

What is the JoPo TWIST and how does it work?
The TWIST is an interchangeable thumb system for bowling balls. A threaded outer is installed into your ball’s thumb hole and stays in place. Your thumb sits in an inner sleeve that drops into the outer, lines up at the 6 to 7 o’clock position, and twists clockwise to lock securely. Because the inner is the part that locks in and out, you can swap thumb inserts in seconds without ever re-drilling the ball. JoPo calls it Thumb With Interchangeable Superior Technology, and the locking design is patented so it holds firm through every shot.
Why would I want an interchangeable thumb insert?
Your thumb is not the same size all the time. It swells over a long block, shrinks in cold weather, and feels different from day to day. With a fixed thumb hole you are stuck with one fit; with the TWIST you simply twist in a different inner to keep a consistent, comfortable hold. It also lets you keep a backup ready, fine-tune the feel of your release, or use the same ball across changing conditions, all without a trip back to the drill press.
Is JoPo Grips legal for league and tournament play?
Yes. JoPo Grips products are approved by the USBC, PBA, and PWBA, so the TWIST system is legal from league night all the way to national competition. Every grip is also made in the USA.
What size JoPo inner do I need, 1-1/4 inch or 1-3/8 inch?
JoPo inners come with different slug sizes, most commonly 1-1/4 inch and 1-3/8 inch, to match the diameter of your thumb hole and the fit you want. The right size depends on your hand and how your ball is drilled, so the best move is to have a pro shop measure you. Our BowlersMart staff can fit you and recommend the correct inner and slug.
Does my pro shop need to install the JoPo system?
The outer is installed into the ball by a pro shop, since it has to be fit and secured to your existing thumb hole. After that, swapping inners is something you do yourself in seconds, no tools required beyond the JoPo locking tool for a snug final turn.
