What should I know about the Twist?
Description
The Easiest-Hooking Reactive Ball for New Bowlers
About the Twist
The Brunswick Twist is one of the most beginner-friendly reactive bowling balls ever made, the gentle, controllable bridge between a plastic ball and a true hook ball. It pairs the symmetric Twist Low Diff Core with the R-16 Pearl Reactive coverstock, delivering just enough hook to learn with, on light to medium oil, in a striking range of color designs.
The Twist is built for new and developing bowlers. Its very low differential produces a small, controllable amount of hook, so the ball reads the lane gently and predictably rather than snapping at the breakpoint. That makes the Twist the perfect first reactive ball: it shows you what hook feels like without an aggressive, hard-to-control reaction, and it is available all the way down to 8 lb for youth bowlers.
Understanding the Brunswick Twist Low Diff Core and Brunswick R-16 Pearl Reactive
Brunswick built the Twist as the easiest-hooking reactive ball for new bowlers on light to medium oil. Specifically, the symmetric Twist Low Diff Core posts a 2.591 RG and a very low .018 differential, numbers that produce minimal flare and a gentle, controllable hook, while the R-16 Pearl Reactive cover reads the lane cleanly. As a result, it gives you just enough hook to learn with, in a forgiving, predictable package. The per-weight specifications are listed below.
A Very Low Differential Symmetric Core for a Gentle, Controllable Hook
At the heart of the Twist is the symmetric Twist Low Diff Core. At 15 lb it measures a 2.591 RG and a very low .018 differential, numbers that produce minimal track flare and a gentle, controllable hook. The very low differential is what makes the Twist so beginner-friendly: it hooks just a little, so the ball stays easy to read and control.
That forgiving, on-line reaction is the Twist’s whole purpose. It reads the lane the same way shot after shot, so new bowlers can feel a reactive hook for the first time without an aggressive, snapping motion. It is the simplest reactive ball to learn with.
A Pearl Reactive Cover for a Gentle, Clean Hook
The Twist wraps that core in Brunswick’s R-16 Pearl Reactive coverstock at a polished finish. The pearl cover provides a gentle, controllable hook with clean length, so the ball gets down the lane and makes a small, predictable move on light to medium oil rather than the strong reaction of a performance ball.
That controllable read is what makes the Twist the ideal first hook ball. Leave it polished for a gentle, clean hook, or take the surface down at your pro shop for a slightly earlier read as you grow into stronger reactions.

BowlersMart Tips: Where the Twist Fits in Your Brunswick Arsenal
Where It Fits in Your Arsenal
In the Brunswick lineup, the Twist is the gentlest, easiest-hooking reactive ball, the natural first step up from a plastic ball like the TZone. It hooks just a little, so it is ideal for learning. As you grow, step up to the Rhino for more hook, then to a Crown or Combat for true performance on heavier oil.
Surface Adjustments
The polished finish gives the Twist its gentle, clean hook. Take the surface down with a lower-grit pad for a slightly earlier read, or keep it polished for the easiest, most controllable reaction. Have surface changes done at your pro shop for an even, consistent finish.
Coverstock Care
Wipe the R-16 cover with an approved reactive ball cleaner after every session, and deep clean it periodically. Keeping the cover fresh preserves the gentle, controllable hook that makes the Twist such an easy ball to learn with.
