National Bowling Day 2026: Bowling’s Biggest Day Turns 70 on August 8

Bowling gets one day a year that belongs entirely to it. In 2026 that day is Saturday, August 8, and it carries a little extra weight: it has been 70 years since the first National Bowling Day rolled off in 1956.

The headline this year comes from Lucky Strike Entertainment, the operator behind the Lucky Strike, Bowlero and AMF center brands. At participating centers nationwide, one flat price gets you unlimited bowling from 11 AM to 6 PM, shoe rental included, no reservation needed. Plenty of independent houses will run their own specials alongside it, the way they have for decades.

What Is National Bowling Day?

The first National Bowling Day was organized in 1956, when bowling proprietors across the country turned their centers into a nationwide fundraiser for the American Red Cross. Millions of bowlers took part in hundreds of tournaments across 48 states. It was planned as a one-time event. Bowlers had other ideas, and the day stuck.

Seventy years later it lands on the second Saturday in August every year, which puts the 2026 edition on Saturday, August 8. Centers large and small treat it as the sport’s open house: a day for league regulars to bring the neighbors, for parents to hand a six pound ball to a first grader, and for anyone who has not bowled since a birthday party in middle school to remember why they liked it.

That mix is the point. There are not many sports where a seven year old, a 220 average league bowler and a grandparent can share the same lane and all have a real game going. National Bowling Day exists to celebrate exactly that.

The 2026 Deal: Unlimited Bowling, Shoes Included

For 2026, Lucky Strike Entertainment is running its biggest lane offer of the year under the banner Bowling Forever. At participating Lucky Strike, Bowlero and AMF centers, one flat price covers unlimited games from 11 AM to 6 PM on Saturday, August 8, with shoe rental included.

The fine print is refreshingly short. It is walk-in only, subject to lane availability, so there is nothing to book in advance. It is open to all ages, with bumpers and lightweight balls on hand for kids. There is no cap on games: if you want to grind out seven hours of bowling, nobody will stop you.

One honest note on price: Lucky Strike Entertainment has not published a single national number, just “one low price,” and it can vary by location. Check their National Bowling Day page to confirm your center is participating and what it charges before you head out.

Not near one of their centers? Do not write the day off. Independent houses have celebrated National Bowling Day since the beginning, and many run their own specials: discounted games, family packages, food and drink deals. A 30 second phone call to your local center on Friday is worth it.

First Time Back on the Lanes? Four Tips

Go early. The offer is walk-in only and lanes are first come, first served. The 11 AM to early afternoon window is your friend; Saturday evenings take care of themselves.

Take a minute picking a house ball. Your thumb should slide out without squeezing, and the weight should be something you can swing smoothly rather than heave. Most adults land somewhere between 10 and 15 pounds. Comfort beats ego every time.

Set the kids up to succeed. Ask the counter for bumpers and grab a 6 or 8 pound ball. A kid who knocks pins down on day one is a kid who asks to come back.

Aim at the arrows, not the pins. The arrows a third of the way down the lane are there for targeting. Rolling over the middle arrow beats staring at the headpin, and it is the first habit every good bowler builds.
