The Top 27 Storm, Roto Grip and 900 Global Bowling Balls Ranked

I rank the 27 Storm, Roto Grip & Global Bowling Balls I drilled in 2021

What’s going on guys, welcome back to the channel. Today’s video is going to be a little bit different as I am shooting from home because I am in isolation. I did catch covid so guys take that very seriously because it is no joke. The show must go on so I still have to shoot content some way, somehow and we’re going
to be doing it from inside my isolation room, so I hope you guys enjoy this video.
I am having a good time shooting content in my room, today we’re going to
do a tier list. I took this idea directly from Darren Tang so I don’t think I’m trying to rip him off or anything, I hit him up asking him what site he uses for this tier list and he gave me the information. It’s no secret that I have been loving throwing the SPI branded balls, so in today’s video I’m going to take every single SPI branded balls that I have thrown since I became a free agent and I’m gonna rank them into one of five tiers.

  1. Now the bottom tier is the hate tier these, are bowling balls that I never matched up with from the jump.

  2. Next tier up is going to be the tier which is balls that are okay.

  3. Next tier in the middle is going to be the like tier, these are going to be balls that I neither love nor I dislike.

  4. Then the next tier up is going to be the love category these are the balls that I absolutely love. They go with me almost everywhere I go, these are the best of the best.

  5. Top category is the goat category, now these aren’t necessarily the greatest bowling balls of all time or anything like that these are just some of my absolute favorite bowling balls that I threw this year, some of which may even end up being on my all-time great list.

So if you guys like this video make sure to hit that like button, subscribe and hit that notification bell and if you’d like to see more videos like this where I’m just here talking into the camera just let me know in the comments. I think that’d be pretty cool and then let me know in the comments if you guys are surprised by some of the placements of some of these bowling balls because I’d be interested to see how they differ from your list.

The first ball we’re going to take a look at is the Storm IQ Tour Solid bowling ball. There is no denying and it is no secret that the IQ Tour solid is one of the greatest bowling balls ever made. storm fast pitch bowling ball - i hate it

The next ball we’re going to take a look at here is the Storm Fast Pitch Bowling Ball. I‘ve drilled a lot of urethane balls and the Fast Pitch for me just isn’t it. It’s definitely not my favorite urethane ball. I’m actually going to put the fast pitch into the hate category. The ball just don’t match up with me, not saying it’s a bad ball I just don’t match up with it.

info on the storm fast pitch bowling ball

Balls in the urethane classification can be sensitive to the weight blocks put inside them. The perfect position of the RG, the proper amount of differential, symmetric vs asymmetric – these all play a vital role in the motion in this type of ball. Dialing in the precise measure of each was no easy feat, but we were up to the challenge. Urethanes are meant to bring back the breakpoint to control shorter patterns. But when the RG is too low, the end result is simply too much of a good thing. The higher RG, medium differential Tour Block weight block keeps the Fast Pitch reading the lane exactly where its needed.

Controll XL is making its debut on the Fast Pitch, bringing the performance characteristics between the Pitch Black™ and the Pitch Purple™. The Pitch Black reigns supreme as the hook/set type of reaction with the Pitch Purple being the cleaner and more angular option. The Fast Pitch blends the line between early read and entry angle making it the most versatile Pitch series ball to date.

Weight Block: Tour Block
Cover: Controll XL Solid Urethane
Finish: 1000 Grit Abralon
Flare Potential: 3-4″ (Medium)
Radius of Gyration (RG): 2.61

900 global honey badger intensity bowling ball - I Like it

Next ball here is the 900 Global Honey Badger Intensity bowling ball and this is one of those bowling balls that I really wish I either would have drilled it sooner or would have never been discontinued. I really enjoy throwing it in the brief amount of time that I did have it so I’m going to put that in the like category as well.

info on the 900 global honey badger intensity bowling ball

The Honey Badger Intensity will build upon the success of the Honey Badger Revival by giving the player that famous Honey Badger shape on heavier oil conditions.

The S70 Solid Cover, finished at 4000 Grit Abralon, will provide more traction in the oil versus the polished hybrid cover found on the Honey Badger Revival. The Honey Badger Intensity will provide a dynamic skid/flip shape on the heavier patterns. This cover has been purposely engineered to give you a different look on heavy oil.

The Grapnel 2.0 Core Quickly became known as a piece that will lope through the front part of the lane with very little effort and change direction sharply. Most heavy oil balls feature lower RG’s to promote early revolutions off the player’s hand. Not no with the Grapnel 2.0. This, combined with the cover, will promote a truly unique shape on the fresh patterns.

Coverstock: S70 Solid Reactive

Finish: 4000 Abralon

Color: Pink/Blue Navy

Core: Grapnel 2.0 Asymmetric

Flare Potential: Medium-High

SKU: GHN

roto grip hyped hybrid bowling ball - Ehh

The next ball is the Roto Grip Hyped Hybrid bowling ball. To be honest with you guys, I drilled the hyped hybrid, I reviewed it and I didn’t think it was so bad. I didn’t think it was too terrible but I haven’t thrown it once since I reviewed it so this is going to go into that category that I didn’t hate it when I reviewed it and didn’t love it. I can’t really put it any category because I haven’t thrown it

info on the roto grip hyped hybrid bowling ball

We collectively gathered our thoughts and perspectives on what we felt the HP2 line truly stands for and what it should be. We then went to work developing and constructing what is now known as the Hyped Core. Measuring in as the lowest RG core we have ever offered in the HP2 line, the Hyped Core provides more overall motion than the balls offered in the HP1 line, while providing a touch less motion than our HP3 line offerings. Thus, making this one of the best options we have ever constructed for the HP2 line of balls in history. So, if you weren’t already excited, it is now time to GET HYPED!

From the beginning, the end goal for the Hyped Core was to create a core design that would provide us more overall ball motion than the Hustle Core found in the HP1 Line, while also creating a viable step down option (less performance) than the motions found from our HP3 Line of balls. In the end, our R&D Team hit it out of the park with creating a core shape that provides medium flare and the ideal ball motion for the HP2 Line of balls moving forward.

storm hyroad gold bowling ball - i like it

The Storm Hyroad Gold Bowling Ball is the overseas version of the Hyroad Pearl. It’s the same core that’s in the Hyroad but it’s the nano pearl coverstock instead of the r2s pearl. I’m going to put this one in the like category.

info on the storm hyroad gold bowling ball

The dynamic reaction of the Hy-Road Gold Pearl will also be helped along by the inclusion of tried and true Inverted Fe2 Core Technology. The pin-punishing power of Inverted Fe2 is legendary in the bowling world. That is because it allows for more coverstock material to be utilized, leading to a heightened coefficient of restitution, enhanced dynamics, and amplified energy transfer where you need it most…at the pins. Inverted Fe2 Technology has powered all the Hy-Roads that you’ve loved up to this point, and we know that it won’t disappoint you in the Hy-Road Gold Pearl. Being the best means standing up to the tests of time. The Hy-Road name has done so brilliantly since 2008. Now, the Hy-Road Gold Pearl is ready to add to that legacy by offering you a seriously strong ball reaction that will help you outshine the competition for years to come.

Coverstock Name: R2X™ Pearl Reactive
Coverstock Style: Pearl
Coverstock Type: Pearl Reactive

storm hyroad pearl bowling ball - i love it

Then the Storm Hyroad Pearl bowling ball, it’s definitely not a goat ball for me but it’s definitely one of the greatest balls ever made. I’m going to put it in the love category. I love the Hyroad Pearl it’s not one of those absolutely mandatory go with me everywhere I go like the Altered or the Hustle Camo.

info on the storm hyroad pearl bowling ball

Matching the core to the coverstock is equally important, though. That is why the same Inverted Fe Technology weight block will be carried over into the new Hy-Road Pearl. Pairing the R2S Pearl reactive coverstock with the dynamic Fe weight block ensures that your favorite layouts in your previous Road series balls will be just as effective in the new Hy-Road Pearl. You see, Storm recognizes your needs as a bowler because we, too, are bowlers! And just like you, we want every advantage on the lanes that we can get.

Dont forget that the thicker shell of the Hy-Road series makes a difference, too. The amount of energy transferred to the pins at impact is greater, translating to unmatched power at the pocket. Its part of what makes the Hy-Road one of the most special balls in the history of bowling.

Coverstock: R2S Pearl Cover

roto grip idol helios bowling ball - i like it

storm mix off white bowling ball - EHH

Next ball is the Storm off-white mix bowling ball. I’m going to put this in the ehh category and the reason I do that is because I go back and forth between whether I’m going to use a spare ball, whether I’m going to use a urethane ball, whether I’m going to use a regular reactive resin ball whatever I’m throwing at the time etc. Because of that I’m just going to put it in the ehh category because if I’m not using a spare ball at the time then it’s a complete waste of a ball in my arsenal.

info on the storm mix off white bowling ball

Storm is synonymous with high performance, but not everyone is in the market for premium performance. The Mix’series is perfect for recreational bowlers just getting their feet wet or the seasoned veteran needing a straighter option for spare shooting. The Mix’s traditional 3-piece core enhanced predictability while the urethane coverstock ensures durability that other materials just can’t offer.

The Traditional 3-piece Core enhances predictability no matter who rolls it. Whether it is a beginner’s first ball or a touring professional?s main spare converter, everyone can rely on this tried-and-true core.

storm phaze 2 bowling ball - i love it

We’re going to take a look at the Storm Phaze 2 Bowling Ball. This is a ball that’s going to be in the love category, it’s a ball that’s going to travel with me to all the important tournaments but it’s not my favorite ball right now. If I was doing this list maybe five years ago it definitely would have been up there for me.

info on the storm phaze 2 bowling ball

The new Phaze II features both innovative core and coverstock technology, proving again that Storm is the leader in bowling innovation. Advancements in the core shape are easily seen with the naked eye. This fast-revving shape, the aptly-named, supercharged Velocity? Core helps you crush pin after pin as it produces more ball motion than any other shape in our Master Line. It smooths out the backend reaction without over-reacting and avoids creating an undesirable last-second movement.

TX-16 (Traction-X 2016) is what emerges from countless hours in R&D to develop the finest coverstocks on the planet. This solid reactive blend leaves an incredible footprint on the lane. The marriage between the core and the cover produces the strongest motion of any symmetrical Storm ball to date.

storm pitch black bowling ball - i love it

Next we’re going to take a look at the Storm Pitch Black Bowling Ball. The
Pitch Black is probably my second favorite urethane ball that I have right now
behind, I’ll let you guys guess what the first one is going to be. Because of that the Pitch Black is going to be also in the love category. It’s a ball that’s going to go with me to every single big tournament but again it’s not one of those all-time great ones for me.

info on the storm pitch black bowling ball

Storm has created the Pitch Black, a solid urethane ball, for their Thunder Line. This ball is intended to provide control on lighter and shorter oil conditions. The Capacitor core gives this ball a straighter but strong delivery.

storm dark code bowling ball - i hate it

The Storm Dark Code bowling ball is easily in the hate category for me, I just do not like the dark code at all. It just it never matched up with my game, I drilled two of them with two different layouts, different surfaces. I actually gave it away in one of my videos so that just goes to show you how much I really don’t like that ball.

info on the storm dark code bowling ball

The engineering may be complicated, but the simple truth of the Dark Code is as confidence inspiring as anything else we’ve built to date. Dynamic cores and potent covers build a solid foundation – one enhanced by industry-leading longevity. A superior factory finish signifies its place atop the pecking order. Imposing. Purposeful. This is the kind of ball you look up to.

We stepped back and took the best features of our seven most popular coverstocks: Reactor™, R2S™, TX-16™, NRG™, SPEC™, GI-20™, and NeX™. What’s realized has more texture, more porosity, and more motility that combines the benefits of seven of the most iconic coverstocks to ever leave the Storm workshop. TractionX7 headlines the durability of TX-16, the backend of R2S, and the slower oil absorption rates of SPEC. Simply put, there’s versatility encased in TractionX7’s genome that stays put for as long as it stays in your bag.

storm promotion bowling ball - GOAT

The Storm Promotion bowling ball, I got this ball on a really big recommendation from one of my good friends Luke. If you guys have ever seen his channel, he makes some of the best bowling content on the internet and the promotion is one of his favorite balls and it is one of my favorite balls as well. I‘m actually going to put this in the goat category as well, I don’t get a chance to throw it a whole lot because I only have one so I want to make sure that I can preserve that ball.

info on the storm promotion bowling ball

The Piston core brings with it months of testing and validation in conjunction with the best player of our time: Jason Belmonte. Developed specifically for his line, the Piston Core creates separate helical archs that make the shape corkscrew as it tumbles. You can see the channels on the sides of the Piston Core and the large band through the equator which displaces the mass in a very specific way.

900 global reality bowling ball - i love it

The 900 Global Reality bowling ball isn’t going to be in the goat category but I think I am going to put it in the love category. It’s probably my favorite asymmetrical solid that I’ve thrown in the last four or five years. Probably since the Sure-lock or since the Alpha Crux. So the fact that the reality would probably be second to the alpha crux is a really good thing so I’m to put it in that love category

info on the 900 global reality bowling ball

The ALL-NEW Reality brings a solid version of the incredibly strong S84 Response cover to the table. Combined with a revolutionary core, the Reality will be the strongest ball 900 Global offers!

The S84 Response solid cover utilizes a technology that promotes up to 20% larger pore sizes. By offering this cover in a 2000 Abralon finish, we have ensured maximum traction in the heaviest of oil. The Reality will rival the original Volatility in terms of overall hook.

The Disturbance Asymmetric core creates asymmetry by having differing shapes on the bottom and top of the weight block. This core was designed with a focus on a shape that will fill a space with the least amount of material, yet still yield the RG/Diff values that all bowlers demand.

Coverstock: S84 Response Solid
Weight Block: Disturbance Asymmetric
Factory Finish: 2000 Abralon

roto grip rst x-2 bowling ball - EHH

Now the Roto Grip RST X-2 bowling ball, this is another one where I go between love and like. I’m not really sure if I love it or if I just like it, it doesn’t see a whole lot of lane play for me because I throw the Hyroad Pearl just so much more. Where the RST X-2 would be good I think that the Hyroad Pearl is just better, and then sometimes the X2 can be just a little bit too strong. Actually I’m going to end up putting it in the ehh category because the more I talk about it the lower on this list I want to put it.

info on the roto grip rst x-2 bowling ball

Professional bowlers like to see continuous motion down lane with minimal deflection as the ball enters the pocket due to their rev rates usually being on the higher side. This logic was the basis of development by the R&D team as they looked to create a core that would maintain dynamics after drilling in order to maintain a higher level of core torque down lane. The larger mass at the base of the core does indeed create that. Especially since when drilled, the thumbhole will always end up in the void area not really affect the bottom mass of the core. Thus, making this core a “Tour Level” type core design better known as the Roto Star Tour Core (RST Core).

roto grip RST X-1 bowling ball - I Like it

The Roto Grip RST X-1 bowling ball,  now the x1 would probably be my second favorite control asymmetrical ball if the reality wasn’t a thing. I’m going to put it in the like category, I haven’t thrown it a whole lot but it I know if I did not have the Reality this would get a lot of lane time.

Tour-ethane™ Coverstock
Sometimes in the search to find the answer to modern day situations, you are forced to take a step or two backwards and investigate pre-existing alternative options that in the end, just may hold the answer to what you are in search of. Such is the case in the development and creation of our new Tour-ethane coverstock material. This material was derived as the result of this new direction of thinking and formulating. Our R&D Team followed the chemistry path of pure urethane from yesteryear in order to find the answer to the modern-day struggle in terms of excessive friction. Whether it is due to friction in the oil pattern, friction in the lane surface, or a combination of both. To that we say – Fear Friction No More!

storm trend 2 bowling ball - I like it

Storm Trend 2 Bowling ball, the the belmo ball. I’m going to put it in the like category. I don’t love the trend, I definitely don’t dislike it. When I first reviewed it I remember I had a 19 bagger in that first review and I thought that it was going to be the greatest bowling ball of all time. Since then I’ve drilled other things that have ended up taking its place in the bag.

info on the storm trend 2 bowling ball

For a ball to be emblazoned with Jason Belmonte’s insignia, you know it must be special. After all, his 13 majors and multiple PBA Player of the Year accolades is no small feat. This man knows what he’s talking about, so we’ve enlisted his help in designing some of the highest performing balls on the market, balls which reflect his career.

Now it’s time to set another TREND with the Trend 2.

“Of all the Signature™ line balls Storm and I have created, Trend 2 has us the most excited. With a stronger cover and a redesign of the weight block, we have created an absolute monster for any style of player,” said Jason. “Trend 2 will give you the ability to move deeper on the lane without losing entry angle into the pocket. If you are in need of throwing that big couple games, Trend 2 is going to have your back.”

roto grip ufo alert bowling ball - I love it

The Roto Grip UFO Alert bowling ball, I love the UFO Alert! When I bowled the doubles regional, the member non-member doubles with Michael Martell that UFO Alert absolutely saved my behind. When I went to it it was such a good ball, haven’t really thrown it much since then just because it’s a little strong for what I bowl on. I know that it’s there when I need something that’s strong like that so that’s why I’m going to put it into my love category.

Assembled for every bowler in the universe, the UFO Alert is here to help you navigate those Medium to Medium/Heavy Oil Conditions with ease. No matter your style, no matter your rev rate, no matter your speed, the E.T. Core (Equalizer Technology Core) with its built in cavities, is sure to create great overall core motion every time due to the added mass displacement when drilled. And we can’t forget about the eTrax Hybrid Coverstock which is made of 2 parts pearl and1 part solid. This cover combination aids in creating plenty of responsiveness to friction down lane without being too angular. Thus, making this combination of core and cover one of the most ideal options ever created for most any house type oil condition on planet earth.

900 global wolverine bowling ball - I love it

The 900 Global Wolverine bowling ball is very similar to a Hyroad Pearl for me but a little bit less overall. I think I’m going to end up putting it in the love category anyway but just know that the Hyroad Pearl might be a little bit higher on the list if that makes sense.

900 global Zen bowling ball - GOAT

The 900 Global Zen bowling ball is automatically going to go in the goat category. It is an absolute fantastic bowling ball and it is going to end up being one of my favorite bowling balls of all time. it reminds me of a stronger marvel pearl, it’s a shiny ball that’s a pearl that’s designed to be a little bit longer and a bit angular but it’s still very smooth in the grand scheme of things

The S77 Response™ Pearl Coverstock was the obvious choice to follow up on the success of the S77 Response™ Solid coverstock. The Pearl version of this cover will provide the most skid/flip reaction we have ever put in the 800 Series. The Zen™ will be a great ball to open up your angles with on medium-heavy patterns.

The Meditate™ Core is the biggest core we have ever put into a bowling ball!! A bigger core means more hitting power combined with a more consistent reaction. Throughout testing the Meditate™ Core provided that wide “footprint on the lane that all bowlers love to see. The Zen™ pushes the limits of core dynamics.

900 global Zen master bowling ball - I hate it

Then the last ball we’re going to take a look at here is the 900 Global Zen Master bowling ball and it’s going to go in the hate category. I was not a fan of the Zen Master when I first reviewed it. I matched up with it a little bit but then the more and more games I put on it the less and less I liked it. Other balls it would be like in the
similar category I just like so much more, Phase 2, Idol Helios. I would even rope in the Honey Badger Intensity into that same kind of category and they just all seem to be so much better than the Zen Master for me.

So guys there’s my list, I have five balls in the goat category, seven in the love, seven and the like, four in the ehh and three in the hate. Now if any of these bowling balls you guys think should have been in a different category or in a different slot than what you guys would put in for your list don’t take this list personal or anything like that. This is the beauty of bowling, some of the balls that I would consider some of my all-time greats might be some of the ones that you guys hate the most and vice versa. I think that’s the beautiful part about bowling that some of the bowling balls that I love you guys can hate and vice versa and it’s just a beautiful thing.

So if you guys like this video let me know in the comments, I can continue to do some of these tier videos let me know what you guys want to see me rank and if you guys are interested I’ll do more of them. I think this this is actually a pretty cool little experience for me.
