Nearly a decade after the Phaze II Solid became Storm’s benchmark for symmetric performance, Storm finally delivers the pearl version bowlers have been asking for. The Storm Phaze II Pearl keeps the proven Velocity Core but upgrades to the TX-25 Pearl Reactive coverstock finished with Power Edge polish. As a result, bowlers get more length through the front, a stronger backend, and complementary motion to the Phaze II Solid on medium to heavy oil. At 15 lbs: RG 2.48, Differential .051. Red, Blue, and Purple colorway with Storm’s Frosted Cinnamon Roll fragrance. Available 12–16 lbs. Ships free with no minimum purchase, backed by a 60-day return policy.
Description
Storm Phaze 2 Pearl Bowling Ball — The Long-Awaited Pearl Complement to Storm’s Most Iconic Symmetric Ball
Worth the Wait
Bowlers have been asking for a pearl version of the Phaze II since the solid became a Storm staple nearly a decade ago. Released in November 2025, the Phaze II Pearl answers that request directly. Storm kept the Velocity Core — the same symmetrical weight block that built the Phaze II’s reputation — and upgraded to the TX-25 Pearl Reactive coverstock. That single change produces a fundamentally different look on the lanes.
More length through the front. A cleaner read through the midlane. A more defined move at the breakpoint. Rather than replacing the solid, the Phaze II Pearl completes it. Together, the two balls cover more lane conditions than either handles alone.

🎓 Symmetric Cores and Pearl Coverstocks — What the Specs Actually Tell You About Ball Motion
Why Symmetric Cores Behave Differently
The Velocity Core is symmetric — meaning every axis through the ball’s center produces an equal RG value. As a result, mass distributes evenly in all directions. No mass bias marker exists, and no intermediate differential appears on the spec sheet. That absence, however, is not a limitation. It reflects a fundamentally different design philosophy from asymmetric options.
Asymmetric cores concentrate mass unevenly to create sharper, more angular backend motion. Symmetric cores like the Velocity, by contrast, produce a smoother and more consistent arc from midlane through the pins. Most bowlers find symmetric motion easier to read, easier to repeat, and easier to adjust as lane conditions change. That predictability, above all, explains why the Phaze II Solid became a decade-long staple in Storm’s lineup.
What Low RG (2.48) Means on the Lane
RG measures when the ball transitions from skid into roll. At 2.48, the Velocity Core sits at the low end of the RG range, so the ball revs up earlier than most. In other words, the core begins its roll cycle sooner after leaving the hand. For the Phaze II Pearl, this means strong midlane engagement even through oil volume. Rather than coasting through the front, energy builds early, carries through the midlane, and arrives at the breakpoint with plenty of momentum left for a controlled backend move.
High Differential (.051) and Pearl Coverstock Together
A differential of .051 creates high flare potential — the ball’s track migrates significantly down the lane, exposing fresh coverstock to friction on each rotation. Combined with the TX-25 Pearl Reactive coverstock and Power Edge polish, this produces a specific motion type. Pearl covers, unlike solid covers, absorb less oil from the lane surface. Furthermore, the polished finish slides through the front of the lane with less friction, storing energy rather than releasing it early. At the breakpoint, that stored energy creates a stronger, more defined backend move than the Phaze II Solid produces from the same spot.
TX-25 vs. TX-16 — Why Storm Upgraded the Cover
Previous Phaze pearl releases used weaker covers — TX-16 Pearl on the Phaze AI, R2S Pearl on the Phaze IV and V. Both came and went. Meanwhile, the Phaze II Solid on its TX-16 Solid coverstock remained. Storm’s testing showed that a pearl cover for the Phaze II needed to be stronger than the solid to perform within the Master line. TX-25, therefore, delivers more traction and continuation than any previous Phaze pearl cover. In doing so, it closes the gap between the original Phaze II Solid and the IQ Tour series — filling a space where no previous Phaze pearl successfully landed.

💡 BowlersMart Tips: The Solid/Pearl Pairing Strategy — How the Phaze II Pearl and Phaze II Solid Work Together
The Most Effective Two-Ball Approach in Competitive Bowling
The solid/pearl pairing is one of the oldest and most reliable strategies in competitive bowling. A matched solid and pearl ball — same core, different coverstock — covers the widest range of conditions from the fewest pieces. In fact, the Phaze II Pearl and Phaze II Solid are the textbook example of this strategy done right.
What Each Ball Does
The Phaze II Solid (TX-16 Solid, 3000 Abralon) reads oil earlier, creating strong midlane traction and a smooth, controlled arc — the right tool when oil volume is high and the pattern is fresh. The Phaze II Pearl, on the other hand, reads cleaner through the front and stores energy for a more defined backend move. As a result, it works best on medium conditions, transitioning patterns, or whenever the solid reads too early.
When to Switch Between Them
Fresh heavy patterns call for the solid first. As oil carrydown begins and the pattern transitions, however, the Pearl becomes the better option. Boards open up, and the pearl’s cleaner front end lets the ball reach the friction zone where the backend can work. Switching from solid to pearl at the right time, therefore, maintains strike consistency without requiring a drastic line change. Moreover, the same motion shape — the predictable Velocity Core arc — continues throughout the session.
Why Matching Cores Matters
Pairing two balls on completely different cores produces two different motion shapes. Reading one, consequently, doesn’t help you read the other. Paired solid and pearl versions of the same core eliminate that problem entirely. Because the Velocity Core’s motion shape stays consistent across both balls, only the timing changes — earlier with the solid, later with the pearl. Adjustments carry over naturally from one ball to the other.
Building Beyond the Pair
The Phaze II pair covers most medium-to-heavy conditions effectively. Adding a plastic spare ball, furthermore, closes the single-pin coverage gap. From there, expanding the arsenal means adding equipment above for heavier conditions or below for drier, more transitioning lanes. Overall, though, the solid/pearl pairing at the middle of the condition range is the most productive starting point for any competitive bowler building a Storm-based setup.
