Description
No Thumb Control You Can Trust
About the Smooth Criminal
The smartest move is the one you can trust. The DV8 Smooth Criminal was engineered to bring a new level of control to bowling, combining a lower RG, lower differential core with a smoother, lower-traction coverstock to produce a stable, predictable motion from start to finish.
Designed to expand DV8’s No Thumb performance options, the Smooth Criminal excels on short to medium patterns, wet/dry house conditions, and other challenging environments where stronger balls can become too responsive. By blending the pattern instead of overreacting to friction, it delivers the consistency and control high-rev players need when making quality shots matters most. It streets October 22, 2026 in Steel Blue / Black.
Understanding the DV8 Larceny Core and DV8 Jailbreak S5 Hybrid Reactive
The Smooth Criminal pairs DV8’s symmetric Larceny core (2.471 RG and .028 differential at 15 lb) with the Jailbreak (S5) hybrid reactive cover at a 500, 1000, 3000 Siaair Micro Pad finish. DV8 rates it for light to medium oil with a control-first reaction. DynamiCore adds hitting power and durability. The full per-weight numbers are listed below.
A Lower RG, Lower Differential Core for Stable Motion
The symmetric Larceny core is part of DV8’s No Thumb lineup. At 15 lb it measures a low 2.471 RG and a low .028 differential. The low RG gets it into a roll early, and the low differential keeps the flare modest, so the ball stays stable and predictable instead of overreacting to friction.
That combination is what makes the Smooth Criminal a control ball: it blends the pattern rather than fighting it, which is exactly what high-rev players need on tricky or broken-down conditions. The 13 and 12 lb weights measure 2.558 / .030 and 2.579 / .030.
A Smoother, Lower-Traction Cover
The Smooth Criminal wraps the Larceny core in the Jailbreak (S5) hybrid reactive cover at a 500, 1000, 3000 Siaair Micro Pad finish. DV8 designed it as a smoother, lower-traction cover, so the ball reads the lane evenly and does not snap at the dry.
On short patterns and wet/dry house shots, where stronger balls can become too responsive, that smooth read is the point. DynamiCore in the core adds hitting power and durability.

Who This Ball Is Right For
✓High-Rev No Thumb Bowlers: Low RG and low differential tame the reaction so it blends the pattern
✓House Shot Bowlers: A stable, predictable ball for wet/dry conditions
✓Sport and Short Pattern Players: Excels where stronger balls become too responsive
✓Thumb-In Bowlers: DV8 publishes layout resources for thumb-in players as well
Good to Know Before You Buy
·Built for No Thumb, fine with a thumb: DV8 designed the core with drill areas where the two finger holes change the reaction more than on a typical core. Thumb-in bowlers can use it too; DV8 publishes layout resources for both No Thumb and thumb-in players.
·Control over raw hook: The lower RG and lower differential give a stable, predictable motion with moderate total hook. For heavier oil, step up to a stronger ball like the Outsider or Heckler Hybrid.
·Ships at a clean box finish: The 500, 1000, 3000 Siaair Micro Pad finish is a smooth, sanded surface that still gets down the lane. Take it lower for an earlier read, or polish it up for more length.
·Colors vary: Actual colors vary somewhat from the photos shown; no two balls come out of the mold exactly alike.
·Tiny pit holes are normal: A few tiny pit holes in the coverstock are a normal part of the manufacturing process.
·Sold undrilled: Ships without finger holes, so it can be fitted to your hand and span.
BowlersMart Tips: Where the Smooth Criminal Fits in Your DV8 No Thumb Arsenal
Where It Fits in Your Arsenal
In DV8’s No Thumb lineup, the Smooth Criminal is the control ball at the bottom of the bag. It sits below the Dark Side Curse and Double Trouble for medium oil and the Outsider benchmark, and it is the one to reach for when everything else is too responsive.
Surface Adjustments
The 500, 1000, 3000 Siaair Micro Pad finish is a clean sanded surface that reads the mid-lane without burning up in the front. Take it lower for an earlier read on heavier oil, or polish it for more length. Have surface changes done at your pro shop for an even, consistent finish.
Coverstock Care
Reactive covers absorb oil over time, which softens the reaction. Wipe the ball down after every set and deep clean it periodically so the Jailbreak (S5) Hybrid cover keeps the motion it shipped with.
